This week consisted of some minor hotel dry-fire through the week. I’ve really been focusing on partials and small targets. All seems to be going good with those but I really was drained for energy this week. I think it was a combination of being on the road training that caused me to sleep in a crappy hotel and eating like crap. Been playing with both my Production and Carry Optics guns and I’m really starting to enjoy the dot. I currently am planning on switching after Great Plains Section, but after the last match my fuck-it attitude has been playing with my head telling me to just switch now. Getting to Sundays match will hopefully fix it.
I didn’t get to the range on Friday morning since the wife needed me to watch the daycare kids so she could hit a doctors appointment in the morning and the winds were not going to cooperate so I loaded ammo and dry-fired. Will either hit the indoor range at 0500 on Friday or head out to Beacon in the afternoon this week.
This week has consisted of a lot of dry-fire without a timer. I am trying to find a pace other than speed mode to shoot. I’m a far better shooter than the one I left Omaha as on Sunday. Once I took the timer away for anything other than a start beep I focused on partials, plate rack and popper targets and really focused on driving the gun and making sure I had a solid sight picture. I started to speed up a bit as I became more comfortable with it. Continue reading Paper Plates and Partials
What do you do when you have to adult on range day? You get up at the crack of dawn and go anyway. Playing daddy daycare almost got in my way of practice but instead of letting it I was up at 5am and off to the range. Got everything set up and set forth on my plan.
I started off with some El Prez as a warm up. Hit a couple of Master Class runs but mostly high A’s due to me screwing up my reloads. I then moved on an did some runs with High Standards. My reloads were the low hanging fruit but the hits were not the greatest Continue reading Up Before the Chickens
Took a lighter week with the dry-fire. I’ve had a strange pain on occasion in the center of my palm on my strong hand. It’s not a constant pain but more of a shooting pain on occasion when I do something with that hand and I haven’t figured out exactly what is causing it but the rest is making it less frequent.

I’m thinking I have everything I will be needing in my range bag for tomorrow. GoPro should be charged, gun and mags are bagged up and ready to go, 400 rounds of ammo case gauged and ready to go, and other miscellaneous things in my bag in case something breaks.Just gotta grab a few bottles of water and some snacks to throw into the bag in the morning before I meet Jon for the 4 hour trip.
The match is almost full and at this time there are a total of 29 shooters in Production. Continue reading Omaha Bound!
Just realized that it’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve posted. I have been fairly busy with training, work, and family stuff and haven’t really been able to find the time. Last Friday I hit the range and shot A LOT of dots. Gun ran flawlessly so the repairs helped out. Didn’t dry-fire on Saturday and Sunday with family time on Saturday and then getting called into work at 5am on Sunday. Been working on a lot of match mode stuff this week gearing up for the match in Omaha on Sunday. Jon and I will be heading down bright and early on Sunday and then we will shoot the match and head back. I was originally going to drive myself but it will be good to be able to split the driving so neither of us get burnt out. Continue reading Gearing Up for the First Match of 2017!
Today was Presidents Day so that meant I had the day off of work. I decided to get up and go to the range since I couldn’t go on Friday. I got there and got set up with a plan on doing about 4 different drills as a split session between the Production and Carry Optics guns. I started to blast away with the Production gun until I made it through my first set of mags and turned around to go fill them back up and saw another RSO out in the main room. After a brief conversation with him it was determined that he had invited some guests and I now had to share the range. We agreed I would use one target on lane 2 so I could have the table up so I could still draw and they would use the far other end of the range. Continue reading Tried to be Productive
